Grupo Axé Capoeira
Grupo Axé Capoeira began in Recife, Brazil in 1982. Today, with academies throughout Canada, United States, Europe, Asia and South America, the Grupo continues to rise as one of the world’s leading Capoeira organizations. Backed by worldwide releases of six albums of music on CD, the video release of the 2000 International Encounter and two Performance videos from the Axé Capoeira Volume IV and V CD releases, enrollment continues to steadily increase. The Grupo also continues to travel around the world promoting Brazilian culture, music and dance, and participating in Capoeira and open martial art exhibitions and competitions.

The Sugar Shakers is an all girl 1920’s and 1930’s solo Charleston Flapper performance group lead by Joanna Kassoulides.  The group has performed, competed and entertained in and outside of Toronto at Festivals, Competitions, Private Functions and on stage.  You may have seen them at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Taste of the Danforth.

They offer classes in Solo Charleston Choreography as well as Partnered Dance classes from the 1920’s – 1950’s on Monday nights at the Dovercourt House.

Zahra’s School of Belly Dancing

Zahra’s School specializes in everything belly dance, including belly dance classes, costumes, jewelry and music. Today, Zahra’s School has over 1,500 students, and is represented throughout Durham, York, Greater Toronto Area and Peel Regions. The School is represented in the International Belly Dance front by hosting workshops/events that feature international belly dance celebrities and participating in performances sponsored by International Belly Dance organizations. It has won many awards, including the Reader’s Choice awards for 5 consecutive years and has appeared on many media outlets including CityTV, Rogers TV, The Toronto Sun and the Ajax/Pickering paper.
